Tomáš Šimek: “The two shorthanded goals were nice, but what matters is that we won as a team.”
The Player of Round 7 in RAHL 2 is Tomáš Šimek of the Hockey For All team. In the game against Trnava Beast he shone with two goals, both of them shorthanded no less. With his performance he contributed significantly to an important win and confirmed that, even though he has struggled for points so far this season, he is still one of the team’s key players. In the interview he assessed the game, highlighted the opponent’s qualities and revealed what he expects from the rounds ahead.
1. You scored two goals in the game against Trnava Beast. Which of them made you happier?
Tomáš: “Yes, I managed to score in the game and get two goals during our penalty kill, which of course made me happy, since I’ve been struggling quite a bit so far this season as far as points go. But at the end of the day it doesn’t matter at all who scores the goal; the main thing is that the game gets won.”
2. How would you rate the Hockey for All team’s performance in this game?
Tomáš: “I have to rate the team’s performance as clearly positive, since several players dropped out at the last minute because of illness and the lineup had to be reworked in a hurry. As for the overall game, we battled, we forechecked and we also created several chances, which, however, we couldn’t convert at 5-on-5. Then came our unnecessary penalties, which in the end, paradoxically, turned out in our favor.”
3. Where was the opponent, Trnava Beast, most dangerous in this game?
Tomáš: “The opponent was dangerous mainly in skating, forechecking and individual quality. I also have to praise their goalie, who bailed them out in more than one situation.”
4. What are your expectations for the next games, personally and as a team?
Tomáš: “I definitely expect that we won’t let up in the next games and will keep battling to get as many points as possible in the standings and lock up the playoffs, which, I have to say, are kind of an obligation for us after last season, which we managed to win.”
Tomáš Šimek showed that a game can be decided even while shorthanded; with two goals at key moments he kick-started his team toward the win and brought positive energy into the locker room. Hockey For All confirmed that even with a depleted lineup it can battle and get the most out of it. If the team keeps up the commitment and discipline it showed against Trnava, it has a great chance to repeat last season’s success and once again play for the very top spots.
