Merschitz at ease in the morning: Two goals and a win for Wild Thing Karaoke

Wild Thing Karaoke confirmed their excellent form in Round 8 of RAHL1 by handling the White Sharks team 3:1. Forward Miroslav Merschitz played a major part in the win with two accurate shots, showing that, despite the game’s early-morning start, getting up with hockey sometimes pays off. He told us more about his two-goal performance, the opponent and the traditional locker-room ribbing in a postgame interview.

1. A 3:1 win against the White Sharks team, and you managed to score two goals. How would you rate your performance?

Miro: “It was a morning game, and I usually play well in those, since from 6:30 I’m at practice with Ružinov’s youngest kids, so by the time the game comes around I’m more or less awake 😁. The opponent didn’t let me get many chances, and what I had, I converted, so I’m satisfied.”

2. Halfway through the game you were already up by 3 goals, but then you let the opponent back into it. Are you satisfied with the way your team played?

Miro: “White Sharks are a much more unpleasant opponent this season than last, which I’m glad about. They play stubbornly, they have skilled individuals and a good goalie too. It’s a team that everyone will have a hard time playing against this season. We got through the game, so I’m satisfied.”

3. Your goaltender was only a few minutes away from a shutout. Was there any teasing aimed at him in the locker room after the game, that he could have done more?

Miro: “Well, of course 😁. Teasing the goalie is part of being a team. The goalie held us up in the game and gave us a chance to win it; the fact that he didn’t get the shutout I see as easing the team budget 😁.”

4. You are only 4 points behind Petržalka. Do you follow their games and root for their opponents, or do you try to focus more on your own performances?

Miro: “Petržalka has pulled away this season, and there’s no point in following them the way you describe. We try to look at ourselves and improve our game so that in the playoffs we can get 100% of the potential out of the team; then we definitely have a chance to fight for the title.”

Wild Thing Karaoke continue to put in steady performances and are staying in touch with the top of the RAHL1 standings, trailing leader Petržalka by just four points. Miroslav Merschitz showed once again that when he has already warmed up with Ružinov’s youngest kids, he tends to be seriously dangerous for opposing goaltenders. And although the team lost its shutout, as Miro himself remarked – at least the club’s kitty saved some money.
