Hockey on your wrist: the Ice Hockey app for Garmin watches measures your game
Every hockey player knows the feeling: you step off the ice with a hunch that you skated more today than usual — but how much exactly? From now on the answer is on your wrist. The Ice Hockey app for Garmin watches is built specifically for indoor hockey: it doesn't rely on GPS, it reads the game from the watch's sensors. Just choose a mode — practice, pickup game or game — and play.
Ice time and shifts. The app automatically recognizes when you are on the ice and when you are on the bench: it measures ice time, bench time, the number of shifts, and the length of your last shift and your average shift. You mark off the periods with a button, and the watch keeps track of the whole game.
Skating. Current, average and top speed, an estimate of the distance covered, the ratio of gliding to standing, hard stops and turns. To be fair: without GPS in an arena these are estimates based on wrist movement, which calibrate themselves automatically — and on outdoor ice you can switch on GPS AUTO.
Shots and load. Number of shots, shot power, total workload and time spent at high intensity. You'll see in black and white whether you were “just skating” today or really working hard.
Heart and recovery. Heart rate, average and maximum, zones, the trend over the last minute — and above all recovery after a shift, which reveals how quickly your heart rate drops after your stint on the ice. Plus calories for the whole game. You can adjust the thresholds to your player profile: recreational, amateur or pro.
Summary and your progress. After saving, a clear summary awaits you: time, skating, heart, shots — and the Progress page, which compares today's performance with the average of your previous sessions. Everything is saved as an activity in Garmin Connect.
And the best is still in the works. During the 2026/27 season we will connect the watch to your SZALH player profile — your game data will appear in your profile on the league website, and league-wide rankings will be added. Who skates the most? Who shoots the hardest? Soon you'll see it in black and white.
Your data, your rules. Everything will work strictly with your consent: the data from your watch stays private, visible only in your profile, until you yourself decide otherwise. Only what you explicitly confirm will be published — and whenever you change your mind, you can completely delete your data from your SZALH profile.
Download the app for free from the Connect IQ store: apps.garmin.com — Ice Hockey. It runs on dozens of Garmin models (fénix 6 and newer, epix, Forerunner 255/265/570/965/970, venu 3, vivoactive 5/6 and others). Try it at your next practice and write to tell us how you liked it.
Everything about the app in one place. What it measures, how to set it up and which watches it runs on can be found on the Ice Hockey Tracker page.
