Michal Maličký: “September went perfectly, and I believe we’ll be back in form soon.”

The Player of the Month for September in RAHL3 is HC LEV Senec forward Michal Maličký. September went great for him: he put up 8 goals and 5 assists, contributing significantly to his team’s excellent start to the season. In the interview he revealed what was behind his form, how he rates the team’s performances and what his personal goals are for the rest of the season.

1. In September you scored 8 goals and added 5 assists. What do you think was behind such a successful month?

Michal: “Excellent linemates. Fildo, Maťko Pokrývka and I were already on the same page in the summer during tournaments, and so that great form carried over into the start of the league as well. Right now things aren’t quite so rosy anymore, since opponents are paying closer attention to us, but I believe we’ll quickly get back into form and pull the team toward good results.”

2. 13 points in a month is a great performance. Was there any special training over the summer as well?

Michal: “Not at all, actually, since our son Matej was born in June, and so there were completely different things to worry about in the summer than hockey. I wasn’t entirely without hockey, though, since with Senec we managed to win two summer tournaments, and we carried that winning mood into the current RAHL3 season.”

3. How would you rate HC LEV Senec’s performances at the start of the season?

Michal: “The first games were great, especially the game against Admirals, where even though we fell behind quickly, we turned that game around. I’d say it was our best game of the season so far. But since then, I don’t know why, our performances have been up and down; we’re really struggling to finish and we have to work extremely hard for a goal. But I believe we’ll break through as soon as possible and keep a winning streak going as long as we can.”

4. Where do you see your team’s biggest strength this season?

Michal: “It’s definitely our goalie Aďo Nogély, who is certainly among the best goaltenders in the whole league. A balanced team where any line can decide a game, and above all a great group of guys who share one goal and are going after it :).”

5. What are your individual goals for the current season?

Michal: “Since, a year later, I’ve once again managed to be the RAHL3 Player of the Month for September – I don’t know whether I should take that for granted :D – my personal goal has already been met, and we’ll see whether I also manage to defend some of the individual trophies from last season :D. But seriously now, I’d trade all these individual things for us being able to lift the winner’s cup over our heads after the last game of the season, and for being able to bring my little daughter another medal for her collection. She dutifully keeps all my medals, so I’d love to add to her collection :).”

Michal Maličký is having an excellent spell at the start of the season, the result not only of his hockey skill but also of great cooperation with his teammates and strong team chemistry at HC LEV Senec.
